First established in 1968, Matawhero wines defied convention and made wines of boutique standing and international acclaim and in doing so, changed the face of New Zealand winemaking forever. Since its first vintage in 1975, Matawhero has produced many excellent and often adventurous wines.

This classic gisborne chardonnay is as big and buttery as their winemakers could get it. Made in the 'old school style' this wine expresses gisborne at its very best. This is a rich and interesting drop with fruit driven aromas of apricot and melon with balanced buttery notes and a textural palate showcasing toasty oak characteristics.

Honeysuckle, baked apple and brioche aromas overlay some flinty minerality on the nose. A soft texture on the palate with a full mouth feel of rich pear, stone fruit and custard notes. The long palate shows good freshness from the cool vintage.
